Jörg Kaiser is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Computer Science at the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg where he leads the Department for Embedded Systems and Operating Systems (EOS). Before he joined the University of Magdeburg in 2004, he was Professor of Computer Science at the Department of Computer Structures in Ulm since 1995. He received his "Diplom in Informatik" and his Ph.D. in Natural Sciences from Bonn University and worked with the German National Research Centre for Information Technology (GMD), St. Augustin since 1980where he was leader of the VLSI system and circuit development group and later deputy leader of the department for Responsive Systems. His research work ranged in computer architecture, operating systems, distributed systems and middleware with emphasis to component-orientation, fault-tolerance, and real-time. His research areas now have a strong emphasis on large-scale distributed real-time systems supervising and controlling real-world applications. He recently co-initiated a Competence Centre for Service Robotics together with the Fraunhofer IFF in Magdeburg to foster the exchange between academia and more industry-oriented development. He served as a program committee member and in various chair positions in numerous conferences and workshops related to distributed computing, fault-tolerance and real-time. He also participated in national and in EU projects. He also has been invited to work in the assessment of research projects for the European Union. |
