Insulin and IGFs are of prime significance for embryologists. They are key regulators of embryo metabolism and decisive determinants for metabolic programming. In a tripartite approach (University of Adelaide, University of Queensland, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg) the developmental impact of insulin and IGFs will be studied on metabolic pathways in preimplantation mouse and rabbit embryos and on trophoblast stem cell differentiation and placentation. Transfer of up-to-date methodology, established in the partners’ laboratories, will be realised by hands-on training of early career researchers and exchange of senior investigators.
