Main aim of the project is the development of a new stack for the PEM electrolyser system of Areva H2Gen. This stack will be equipped with bipolar plates made of a metal/thermoplastic compound. These plates will be coated with a special metallic coating to improve the performance and increase the life time of the plates. The implementation of the new bipolar plates into the stacks necessitates a new design of the stack and of the electrolyzer-system because of slight changes in the dimensions of the new plates compared to the state-of-the-art plates. For the production of the plates for Areva H2Gen, Eisenhuth has to work out a new production process which is optimized for large plates. For this scale-up a detailed understanding of the correlation of the process and the material parameters is needed. Hence the Fraunhofer IMWS/University of Halle shall perform material investigations and lab-scale electrolyzer tests of small bipolar plates made of the new materials prior to the scale.
