Drying of porous media with continuous and discontinuous corner films

Liquid films in pore corners play an important role in the transport processes in porous media during drying. Two types of corner films can be identified: A continuous corner film is connected to a pore occupied by liquid, while a discontinuous one does not contact with any liquid-saturated pores. The continuous and discontinuous corner films can mutually shift their state during drying of porous media. This project aims to understand in detail the transition between continuous and discontinuous corner films by experimental and numerical studies.
