Latent heat storage can be achieved by the phase transition of a large number of different materials (PCMs). Depending on the desired temperature range organic substances, salt hydrates, salts, or even metals can be utilised within this context.
For the purpose of technical application, the PCM has to be embedded in a higher melting containment.
The objective of this sub-project is to develop new processing routes in order to produce mechanically stable PCM beads covered with a polymer-derived ceramic layer. The project will encompass the coating of different types of PCMs, a detailed characterisation and testing, as well as the investigation of the "structure-properties" correlation.
A special focus will be directed towards the mechanical stability of the composite material during temperature cycling.
