The goal of research in universities is not only to obtain scientific breakthroughs, but also to educate PhD students with key qualifications for their future career. This implies providing them with state-of-the-art research facilities, guiding them to in-depth research, but also training them with respect to capabilities that are more general. Therefore, a structured training program is a very fruitful complement to the research focus in the own laboratory. The heart of the integrated Research Training Group (iRTG) within the SFB/TRR "Ultrafast Spin Dynamics will be to offer broad scientific knowledge and to provide skills to the PhD students, which will qualify them for jobs in academia and industry.
The iRTG offers a structured qualification program in scientific and key skills to all PhD students financed and associated to the CRC/TRR. Its training is divided into research training in several laboratories and in different research contexts, as well as an external training program, which offers courses for key skills. The PhD students will have many occasions to actively learn about the works of their colleagues in the CRC, to communicate science and to discuss their own scientific results. The scientific exchange will be fostered by a set of opportunities, such as training in other than their own labs, tutorials, seminars, and a retreat.
