The project examines the market institutions of the Nuba Mountains Region after the achievement of the Peace Agreement which ended the Civil War in the Sudan in 2005. It focuses on the interrelatedness of the market institutions with the structures of the state administration and with local social worlds. This goal is pursued by following the traders, the traded goods, and the social and administrative environments they encounter at state and community levels. In this way, the project traces how state and non-state actors who operate on markets affect and are affected by the local social institutions of sedentary and nomadic groups.
