GRK 2498 (Kommunikation und Dynamik pflanzlicher Zellkompartimente): Towards the functional relevance of dual protein targeting in plant cells

Dual targeting of proteins into mitochondria and plastids is a remarkably frequent phenomenon in plant cells. We have established a variety of complementing approaches to analyse the targeting specificity of such nuclear encoded organelle proteins. Here we propose to examine the possible involvement of dual targeting in the communication and coordination of organelles and its impact on the functionality of plant cells under various conditions.
