Powders manufactured by spray drying often require an additional enlargement step, which is mainly carried out either outside the drying tower or by recycling dry undersized particles into the drying tower. In this project, we advance the knowledge in the enlargement of powders in spray drying with fines return, targeting both the process quality and product quality. An efficient prediction tool within a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) framework is constructed and assessed by means of spatially and temporally resolved pilot-scale plant experiments.
