Coating of very small particles in gas atmosphere at nearly ambient conditions is highly desirable but still a challenge in industry. Conventional spray fluidized bed (or similar) processes tend to extensive agglomeration when the core particles are too small. The process can, though, be shifted to smaller core particles when conducted with aerosol, instead of conventional spray droplets. Apart from fully coated particles, particulate products with interesting patterns of island surface growth can also been achieved in this way. Conventional sprays are also investigated, based on the idea of embedding single particles to be coated in single spray droplets.
