The aim of the project “Yemeni Higher Education Leading to Development of relint offices” (YHELD) is to reduce the isolation of Yemeni higher education institutions with regard to internationalization and to promote their role in the educational, cultural and economic measures for the reconstruction of the country.
The project responds to an urgent and concrete request from Yemeni universities to help them overcome some of the difficulties and isolation problems created by the recent and current history of PC. Higher education is one of the sectors that has been severely devastated and is not considered a priority due to the humanitarian emergency. In addition, the security problem and the lack of qualified job opportunities have discouraged students from participating in academic life.
Higher education institutions play a key role in social stability, international cooperation and peace-building efforts. They are probably the only realistic and viable actors capable of supporting local educational institutions and raising awareness among the government and the international community of local educational needs, and advocating on these key issues with national and international actors.
The specific objective of the project is to improve the capacities and skills of Yemeni universities to work at the international level through the establishment of IROs (International Relation Offices) and the definition of internationalization strategies at the Yemeni partner universities.
The IROs will be an academic window to the international scenario, a strategic “tool” to involve the local educational community in international innovative initiatives, increase visibility, support and monitor university initiatives and ensure good quality standards.
