The two-day interdisciplinary workshop „Genderdiskurse in Bettelorden“ focused on the construction of gender as a matter of research during the last 20 years. The medieval church and religious groups like the mendicant orders were highly influential in dealing with this problem. But until now there is no systematically research about the gender discourse(s) of the mendicant orders. The main issue of this workshop was to ask if the mendicant orders created an own discourse or subdiscourses about gender and in how far these ideas and social constructions of gender, which were made by the mendicants influenced the main discourse of gender in the medieval and early modern times? Which discursivizations were made by the mendicants? In this regard the given papers and discussions of the workshop had an internal view of the mendicant orders especially of the different discoursive and normative discursivizations of the Franziscans and the Dominicans.
