Magnetism, structure and interactions on the atomic scale: supported metal clusters on metal surfaces

Using ab-initio methods we study theoretically the magnetic and the structural properties of surface-supported metal clusters. In particular, the interaction and the correlation of these clusters as well as their thermodynamical properties are considered by means of quantum statistical techniques. In addition we use methods of many-body theory to explore the excitation dynamics and the elementary excitations as a function of the size and the geometry of the systems.
