ExtremSimOpt: Simulation and Optimization of Extreme Flows
We numerically investigate extreme flow problems. By extreme flows, we denote problems of a challenging difficulty like very strong nonlinearities, varying densities or fluid structure interactions.

Such problems arise in technical applications like ball bearing lubrication, where enormous pressures cause an deflection of the steel in ball and bearing and where the fluid (the lubricant) shows a nonlinear behavior with pressure dependent viscosities. Other examples include blood flow, or the flow of granular material.
