Titel: A Transcultural Design Research Incubator. Progressing and critically investigating the field of design research at the Faculty of Applied Arts at the German University in Cairo an the Design Department at Anhalt University in Dessau
Beschreibung: Design research, its questions and methodologies continuously develop and diversify. Therefore, it is vital that design research academics and master students exchange their progress and perspectives regarding emerging a) topics and questions; b) design research methodologies: and c) nurturing supervision strategies that foster critical thinking and vision.
This research proposal is concerned with the question of how a fruitful design research environment can be fostered at the GUC and at Anhalt University.
As a first step the idea is to travel with five to six students from the GUC for a 2 to 3 daylong workshop to Dessau where they exchange their progress and ideas with peers at Anhalt University, guided by Gwendolyn Kulick (GUC) and Dr. Michael Hohl and Dr. Judith Dobler (both Anhalt University). In return Michael, Judith and their students visit the GUC in Cairo for a second round of the exchange.
In the long run the idea is to involve more supervisors and co-supervise master as well as PhD students at the doctoral research center at Anhalt University and at the GUC, and to foster international design research exchange with more partner programs.
As a result the publication ‘Design Research Incubation’ was developed and produced in an edition of 100 books.
The book contains thoughts, ideas, tools, frameworks and potential course outlines to support design research supervision and foster further debate and collaborative projects between the GUC Cairo, Anhalt University and potentially further partner institutions.
One copy of the publication will be send to the DAAD once it is ready. The PDF can be distributed digitally.
